Stories of a novel nature, captured the NBN crew’s imagination during our early years giving our viewers a taste of action and adventure in the Aussie outdoors.

The idea of water skiing, at Newcastle Showground, was quite the eccentric proposal. But 1971 saw the World Premier of the Water Ski Spectacular.

A portable plastic lined tank was built and filled with over 3 million litres of water, creating a track 360 metres in circumference. Promoters were hoping for Australia wide success.

Some of the more peculiar reports included a visit to the ‘Lazy – B Ranch’ Stunt Farm on the Central Coast. Australian stuntman Peter Armstrong, famous for stunt roles in many Australian movies, trained performers on his Mangrove Mountain Property.

And Billy Cart Racing was an adventure. Inventive minds turned pram wheels and timber boxes into creations of pure fun. A rolling good time for all, in 1967.
