The Carnival of the Pines festival was in full swing. Clarence Street was alive as Easter holiday makers joined locals in celebration.
The reigning Queen of the Carnival led the parade, followed by a rousing brass band of marching
musicians. Sea Scouts, Cubs, Girl Guides and Brownies all walked with pride.
The procession of floats included the Oxley County Council, the Port Macquarie Motels association and
the local apex club, members of the Historical society, dressed in period costume and a traditional dancing dragon, entertained the Port Macquarie crowd, bringing good luck to all in 1964.
And in Wauchope special guests from the town’s sister city Canisteo arrived, an exchange visit for the Americans from New York State, to experience country life Australian Style proudly covered by NBN News in 1971.
