Rewind Series 4 Episode 7 – University of Newcastle Great Hall

In the early years of the University, graduation ceremonies took place off campus at Newcastle City Hall..

But by the late 60’s a grand new plan was underway.. to build The Great Hall Dignitaries unveiled the foundation stone in 1971, and Construction began..

The design was unique…an architectural building of brick, concrete and timber to be funded through the Lord Mayors public appeal.

Citizens, local industry and businesses contributed..

NBN cameras followed the progress as the development took shape..
